Calcite is a mineral, comprised of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO<sub>3</sub>), that is used to raise the pH of acidic waters in residential and commercial settings. It is generally used to raise pH from between 5.4 and 6.8, up to a neutral pH of 7.0-7.8. It should be backwashed on a regular basis and replaced periodically as it dissolves.
